Hello, my name is Kate; I’m a baker.

Honestly, it's still funny to hear myself say that. I have always baked cakes, but the title still seems a bit out of place.

Growing up, my extended family took any excuse to get together. That means we ate together a lot. If you made something good, it kinda became "your thing." Dad made the pies for thanksgiving. My grandma made the eggnog at Christmas. My thing was cakes.

From high school onward, I made all the cakes in my family. I got to test out flavors and learn about decoration, and I had built-in taste testers. My journey to becoming a "baker" was pretty natural. I just kept making cakes. Like anything, you start to get pretty good at it after a while.

I still have trouble with the title because I'm just doing something I enjoy. Lucky for me, other people seem to like my cakes as much as I do.
